Modern T4 Hillside Pool Villa
Commissioned project, not yet built · Images: 3D renders
Crisp white volumes, warm timber and a pool held against the hillside: a contemporary villa designed around long afternoons and the valley light.
This home was designed for a sloping plot above a wooded valley in Portugal, for a family who wanted a house that opens fully to its setting. The composition is a play of crisp white volumes — a cantilevered upper floor resting on a recessed ground level — broken by a single warm panel of vertical timber that marks the entrance and carries up through both storeys.
The slope is used rather than fought. A run of terraced steps draws the approach down the hillside, while at the rear the living spaces open onto a timber deck and a pool set against the green of the valley beyond. Deep overhangs shade the glazing through the afternoon, keeping the interiors cool and quiet.
Programme
Four bedrooms, an open living and dining volume, a covered carport, and a rear terrace with pool and sun deck stepped into the slope.
Materials
Smooth white render, thermally modified timber cladding, slim black-framed glazing, honed stone paving, and a timber pool deck.
